Originally from Riverside, Illinois, Chris Morrow has been a professional drummer and drum teacher since 2001. Currently a Doctorate of Musical Arts candidate in Jazz Performance at the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign, Chris holds a Bachelor of Music from the Berklee College of Music and a Master of Music in Jazz Performance from the University of Illinois. Chris has studied privately under Don Skoog, Peter Magadini, Joel Spencer, and Ignacio Berroa.

 

As a performer, Chris has worked with Christian Collin, Miles Minor, Sam Cockrell, Joe Di Zillo, The Doublewide Blues Band, Lucca Feracota and the Sons of Chicago, Candy Foster and Shades of Blue, Goio Lima, Men of Essence, The All-Nighter Band, Chip McNeil, Denise La Grassa, the Peter Tijerina Nonet, the Illinois Modern Ensemble, Harry Hmura, Nigel Mack, the Jigawatt Trio, Eric Mantel, The New Fuse, Pistol Pete, Big Dog Mercer, Old Shoe, The Psycho Kid, Squai, Susan Williams, The Kilborn Alley Blues Band, and Ninety's Daughter among many others.

Chris started teaching in 2001 and currently offers private lessons at the Music Shoppe in Champaign, IL. Lessons are available for all skill levels and are customized to meet each student's specific needs. For beginners, the focus is primarily on the basics of drumming and musicianship. Intermediate and advanced students will cover all aspects of drumming including timekeeping, technique, coordination, improvisation, and musical interpretation, all while discovering their individual style on the drums.
